Empowering Independence for Destiny

Ten-year-old Destiny faces each day with resilience. Born with bilateral club feet, she has undergone sixteen surgeries and wears leg braces to walk—often with pain, making mobility a challenge. Despite this, she loves staying active, from adaptive cross-country skiing to school field trips.

Destiny and her mother, Teri, are supported through Intensive Family Based Services (IFBS), which helps families build stability through case management, and helps build community connections.

Destiny sometimes falls at school and often needs “brace breaks” due to pain. Without reliable transportation, even short distances can be difficult.  Easterseals VT’s Emergency Financial Assistance Fund recently provided Destiny with both an electric scooter and a knee scooter—tools that are already making a meaningful difference.

These scooters empower Destiny, helping her move more safely, keep up with peers, and experience greater independence, confidence, and the simple joys of childhood.
